About Gustarosso
About Gustarosso: A Century of San Marzano Excellence
For more than a century, the Ruggiero family has cultivated the world-famous San Marzano PDO tomatoes in the fertile volcanic soils of Sarno, between Naples and Salerno. What began in 1910 as a family tradition is now Gustarosso — a brand devoted to preserving Italy’s most authentic tomato heritage.
Tradition Passed Down
Rooted in the ancient ritual of “making butteglie” — when families and neighbors gathered each summer to preserve tomatoes for the year ahead — Gustarosso continues to honor this time-honored craft, ensuring every jar captures the flavor of tradition.
The Cooperative Behind the Brand
Today, Gustarosso works through DANICOOP, a cooperative of more than 60 farmers cultivating 200 hectares of land. Each member shares the same commitment: growing San Marzano tomatoes according to strict PDO standards and traditional methods, from careful planting to slow preservation.
Pomodoria: Our Cultural Heart
At the center of Gustarosso is Pomodoria, an interactive cultural hub dedicated to tomato cultivation. Visitors can discover the journey of San Marzano tomatoes through tastings, guided tours, and workshops — an experience that connects agriculture, culture, and community.
More Than Tomatoes
Gustarosso is not only about food, but also about protecting heritage. Through initiatives like San Marzano Tomato Day, The Gustarosso Rooms, and the Gardens of Music, we promote local traditions and the deep cultural roots of Southern Italy.
A Legacy in Every Jar
Every Gustarosso tomato represents a century of passion, the warmth of the Campanian sun, and the dedication of generations of farmers. When you enjoy Gustarosso, you’re tasting the authentic soul of Southern Italy.
